Zero Day cast, plot and trailer for Robert De Niro Netflix series

Robert De Niro has swapped the world of film for the small screen to star in the new Netflix series Zero Day.

The Academy award-winning actor plays a former US president called back into action to head a truth-seeking inquiry into a cyber attack, which paralysed the nation and caused thousands of deaths.

The series was created by Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim, with Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S Schmidt as executive producer and writer.

Newman said: “As a lifelong fan of American cinema, no actor looms larger for me than Robert De Niro.

“To have him as a producing partner and star in this show is beyond our wildest dreams.”

The cast of the thriller also boasts Angela Bassett, Matthew Modine and Dan Stevens among its ranks.

Oppenheim said: “The show looks at the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges — what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families.”

Zero Day prompts a number of questions.

How do we find the truth in a world in crisis and an era rife with conspiracy theories and subterfuge?

And are the forces at work of our own making or even our own imagination?
