Warning over Plymouth acid attack misinformation

Police have issued a warning over "misinformation" being spread about a targeted acid attack in Plymouth.

An investigation is being carried out by Devon and Cornwall Police following the incident at a property on Lipson Road at about 03:55 GMT on 21 February.

The force said a man in his 30s remained in a serious condition after the attack and searches for two suspects described as black men in their early 20s were ongoing.

An update from police said false information about the victim and suspects had been spread on social media and urged the public to only trust official sources.

A police spokesperson said: "Since the attack, misinformation has spread online, particularly on X, stating that a 14-year-old girl was injured during the attack.

"We can confirm that this is not the case.

"There has also been false speculation regarding the alleged suspects."

'Isolated and targeted attack'

The force said it was initially believed the suspects had fled to Wiltshire after the attack.

However, police said it is now thought the duo are no longer in the county.

Det Supt Jon Bancroft said police were "working tirelessly" to investigate the attack.

"This was an isolated and targeted attack, which we believe is related to organised crime," he said.
