United Technologies Corp. said its profit rose 8% in the fourth quarter and 27% for the full year over the comparable periods of 1983.

UTC makes jet engines, elevators, automotive components, helicopters and semiconductor products.

Net income for the fourth quarter was $149.8 million, up from $138.1 million a year earlier.

Revenue for the three-month period ending last Dec. 31 rose 12% to a record $4.37 billion from $3.89 billion a year earlier, the Hartford, Conn.-based company reported.

Net income for the year rose to $645 million from $509 million in 1983. Revenue rose 11% to $16.3 billion from $14.7 billion.

Included in the 1984 earnings was a $46-million non-recurring tax credit posted in the third quarter.

Harry J. Gray, chairman and chief executive, attributed 1984’s results to cost-reduction programs, increased productivity and higher volume at most of UTC’s units.
