Several parts of Britain are likely to be battered by heavy rain as the latest weather maps show a huge 547-mile Atlantic storm hammering the country.
According to WXCharts maps, prepared using Metdesk data, the country will experience unsettled conditions in mid-March as spring begins to settle in.
The massive storm will cover all areas from Wick to Birmingham with wet conditions, mostly impacting areas around Newcastle, Edinburgh and Manchester, the maps have suggested.
Temperature levels are likely to plummet to freezing -3C in areas around Cardiff and Manchester, the maps show.
The dramatic maps come days after the Met Office issued several yellow warnings of rain and wind covering many parts of the country.
Brian Gaze, founder of The Weather Outlook has also predicted increased chances of rain during this period.
He said: “In the north and possibly the east changeable conditions are expected to develop, bringing a risk of showers or longer spells of rain.
“The south, and especially the southwest, will have a good deal of dry and mild weather early on, but the risk of rain increases later.
“After a mild start temperatures dip, and it could become chilly in the north and east.”
The Met Office’s long-range forecast between March 4 and 13 also suggests the possibility of “unsettled conditions” from mid-March.
Calling it a “split weather”, the National Weather Agency explained that an Atlantic system is set to arrive in the country from the west.
The system will bring periods of wet and windy weather, the forecaster warned.
It stated: “Northwestern areas will see some rain and stronger winds at times, as Atlantic weather systems arrive from the west. These spells of wet and windy weather will drift southeast to some degree, but will weaken.
“High pressure is likely to have more influence across the south of the UK, at least at first. Here, there should be a good deal of fine/dry weather at first with a chance of night frosts and morning fog patches, but some pleasantly mild afternoons, and feeling warm in the sunshine.
“However, towards mid-March, there is an increasing chance of unsettled conditions becoming more widely dominant across the UK with more in the way of rain at times, even in the south.”
