Two twins who went missing before they were found dead in a river in Scotland died from drowning, reports say.
Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both aged 32 - who are part of a set of triplets - vanished from Aberdeen on Tuesday, January 7. The twins, originally from Hungary, were found dead in the River Dee in the city on January 31.
Their death certificates both state the single cause of death as drowning, reports the BBC. The deaths are not being treated as suspicious.
Just weeks ago, the father of the twins spoke out. The 63-year-old dad says he does not believe they took their own lives or were in an accident.
Miklos Huszti is convinced the sisters were lured to the river and killed. He told Hungarian media: "I have no idea what happened to my daughters, but I am sure they did not commit suicide."
The sisters were last seen alive on CCTV on Market Street at Victoria Bridge over the River Dee in Aberdeen at about 2:12am on Tuesday, January 7.
A woman’s body was recovered from the river near Queen Elizabeth Bridge just before 8am on Friday, January 31 while the body of a second woman was found in an area of the river near to the Victoria Bridge at about 9:05pm that day.
On January 7 the siblings, who moved to Scotland from Hungary a decade ago, notified their landlord they would not be returning to their flat at about 2:12am that day, when they were filmed on CCTV walking near the River Dee.
Eliza, a hotel house keeper, and Henrietta, a coffee shop assistant, crossed Victoria Bridge and turned right on to a footpath next to the River Dee, heading in the direction of Aberdeen Boat Club.
Their landlady reported her concerns to police and a major search was launched, amid fears for their safety in wintry weather conditions.
Police treated the investigation as a missing persons inquiry rather than a criminal probe and, as part of their investigation, discovered the sisters had visited the bridge the day before they disappeared.
The sisters had not told relatives they were going to move out of their rented flat immediately.
Police who visited the flat they shared however found their belongings, including Eliza's phone, still there. "I believe that they did not send the SMS to their landlord, but someone else or others who cheated and kidnapped my children," Mr Huszti said.
"I am sure that someone lured them to the waterfront and cruelly killed them." The twin sisters had been a set of triplets along with brother Edit, who still lives in Hungary.
Brother Jozsef, previously told the BBC: “They wrote a message to their landlady that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn’t have any information about that.
“So that’s the strange thing, that the girls didn’t tell us anything about that. They never mentioned any such plan.”
Following the discovery of one of the sisters, Superintendent David Howieson said: “Our thoughts are with the Huszti family today..."
Mr Howieson added: “We know how much of an impact this has had in Aberdeen and much further afield.
“We have had a positive response from the public to our appeals and I would like to thank everyone who has already come forward to date."
