Tottenham are reportedly preparing to offer Franck Kessie a lucrative deal as they look to persuade the AC Milan midfielder to sign a pre-contract agreement.
Kessie's current contract with Milan is set to expire at the end of June and Milan have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to convince him to stay.
Milan have reportedly offered the Ivory Coast international a salary of £5.4million a year but Kessie has so far resisted all offers of an extension, as reported by ESPN.
From January 1 Kessie is free to negotiate with clubs from abroad.
There is much interest in the 25-year-old, with Liverpool also reportedly monitoring his situation.
Kessie initially joined Milan on loan from Atalanta in 2017 and made the deal permanent in 2019. So far he has made 205 appearances for the club, during which time he has scored 35 goals and has provided 16 assists.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is eager to strengthen his squad during what will be his first transfer window at the club.
Conte, who was appointed in November, revealed this week that he quickly realised that Tottenham require reinforcements.
He said: 'After only two weeks, I said we need to improve the quality of the squad. For sure we need to improve the quality of the squad.
'I was sure after seven days, 10 days, two weeks about this. And then I make the evaluation who are the players I can count on and the players I can't count (on).'
Tottenham have played ten matches under Conte, winning six, drawing three and losing one.
Conte's side are in seventh place in the Premier League but have played less games than all of the sides above them. They face Watford away on Saturday.
