Maguire has earned 64 caps for England over the past eight years but was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 after struggling with injury, though his form may not have since him replace impressive centre-back duo John Stones and Marc Guehi anyway.
Tuchel was named as Southgate’s replacement back in October and will name his first England squad next week for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
It remains to be seen who Tuchel likes the look of but experienced centre-back Maguire ‘deserves’ a recall, according to Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.
Maguire has featured heavily under Amorim but United are just 14th in the Premier League with a goal difference of minus six.
Despite United’s struggles, Amorim believes Maguire has done enough to revive his international career and ‘hopes’ to see him in the next England squad.
Asked if he believes Maguire’s form has been good enough for a place in Tuchel’s first England squad, Amorim said: ‘If it’s enough is down to the national coach.
‘I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves [it]. He is a great guy, I think he needs to still improve because when you are a player you can improve every time and improve a lot of things.
‘But I think his performances in the moment are quite good and you feel he is more a leader now that can help a national team, so I hope he is in the national team in the next games.’
Maguire has popped up with important goals for Amorim’s Manchester United, netting winners against Leicester City and Ipswich Town last month.
Ex-Premier League boss Harry Redknapp hailed Maguire after his performance in the 3-2 win over Leicester and named him in his Team of the Week for BetVictor.
‘Harry Maguire has always had a knack for scoring big goals for club and country – he popped up with another the other night against Ipswich,’ he said.
‘Aside from his goal, I thought he led the United defence superbly in the second half and he’s a great role model for the likes of Leny Yoro to learn from.’
Maguire will hope to continue to impress on Sunday when Manchester United face Fulham for a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton expects United to be knocked out of the FA Cup, however, tipping Fulham to clinch a stunning 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
‘I am sick of backing Manchester United,’ he said. ‘Even though they beat Ipswich on Wednesday, they did not half make hard work of it and the Tractor Boys ran them close at Old Trafford.
‘Alejandro Garnacho appeared to have a bit of a hissy fit after being hooked before half-time, so it will be interesting to see how Ruben Amorim deals with that. He won’t have any players left at this rate if he decides to leave Garnacho out.
‘United are the FA Cup holders and they have beaten Fulham home and away already this season but on both occasions it was far from convincing, and I don’t really care about that anyway.
‘Amorim is a likeable guy, and I’ve got sympathy for him about the size of his task at Old Trafford but, from watching United, I cannot think of any reason to back them to win this.
‘I am usually wrong about Fulham, but they are going to take this one – 100%.’
