The secret hacks KFC doesn't want you to know

A former KFC employee has revealed their top tips and tricks for customers to make the most out of a trip to the fast food joint.

The employee - who did not wish to be named - worked in several locations for over four years and knows the ins and outs of the chicken shop.

Now they can ready to reveal how you can master the menu of one of Australia's most prominent fast food outlets.

From how to guarantee fresh chips to sneaky discounts - here is Daily Mail Australia's guide to getting more bang for your buck at KFC.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat the $5 go-bucket combo is the way to go.

Although it's not advertised you can add a can of soft-drink to any $3.95 go-bucket for a $1.05.

The perfect quick (and cheap) meal!

Sadly KFC isn't going to spend 20 minutes cooking fresh chicken just for you.

If you want the freshest chicken you're best bet is to ask for chicken 'from the back.'

KFC uses a 'first in, first out policy' - which means they put their oldest chicken out the front to sell first to limit food waste and keep a streamlined cycle.

By asking for chicken 'from the back' - you're asking for the freshest chicken available.

If you order chips at KFC you're likely to get the oldest ones with a bit of extra salt on them.

To get a fresh serving, order 'chips with no salt.'

Chips at KFC are salted immediately after they are pulled from the fryer, meaning they have to cook you new ones if you request no salt.

But this hack means you miss out on KFC's famous salt mixture.

If you're not willing to give up KFC salt just yet, Drive Thru is your best bet at fresh chips.

Most KFC stores will always put their freshest chips in the Drive Thru hotbox and move the leftovers from the previous batch to the restaurant's hot box.

While there's only a couple minutes between the two, Drive Thru chips will be hotter and crunchier while restaurant's will softer and saltier.

A lot of KFC's side items in meals can be swapped for no extra cost.

Any of the sides in boxed and family meals can be exchanged for other side items.

These side items are potato and gravy, chips, coleslaw and dinner rolls.

In family meals, a large side can be exchange for four dinner rolls.

Adding extra sauces and lettuce onto any of KFC's burgers is free and a great way to improve your meal.

One popular variation is to add Supercharge Sauce to a Zinger burger or Pepper Mayo to an Original Burger.

You can also add an extra fillet - Zinger or Original - for $2.95 to make any burger a 'Stacker' in store.

KFC has an extra family meal they don't advertise on menus called the 'Dinner Box.'

The Dinner Box offers 10 pieces of Original Chicken along with any two large sides for $19.95.

If you don't feel like a drink, you can upsize your chips for free instead.

A large chips and burger will usually set you back $10.95, but you can save $2 and order a regular burger combo instead.

A regular burger combo usually comes with a regular chips, burger, and drink but when you swap your drink for a second regular chips you'll be given a large.

If you want a fresh meal and quality service, it makes a big difference to be courteous and polite to staff.

KFC workers almost always go out of their way to ensure customers get decent burgers and fresh chicken if they're asked nicely.

But customers who are rude are far more likely to receive a cold burger or a flat soft drink.
