The real reason why Alejandro Garnacho stormed down tunnel vs Ipswich explained

Garnacho appeared to have an angry reaction to being substituted shortly before half-time in United’s Premier League victory at Old Trafford.

United head coach Ruben Amorim decided to sacrifice the Argentine after his side were reduced to 10 men, with Patrick Dorgu shown a red card.

After Garnacho headed straight down the tunnel towards the dressing room rather than taking his seat on the bench on Wednesday, Dean Saunders warned the winger that he was ‘risking ruining his career’.

However, new footage has now emerged on social media, revealing the real reason why Garnacho went straight down the tunnel against Ipswich.

In a video posted by a United supporter inside the stadium, Garnacho is seen telling and showing staff that he was going to change his shirt amid the cold and wet conditions.

The incident was not caught by TV broadcasters TNT Sports, which has led to the confusion over his alleged angry reaction.

Garnacho’s reaction to being taken off was a key talking point in Amorim’s post-match press conference after the win over Ipswich.

Asked if Garnacho had permission to go directly into the changing room, the United head coach grinned and replied: ‘It was cold and wet, maybe…

‘The thinking was that we play more in the 5-3-1. I know that is a risk because you are taking the only player now that has one-vs-one pace.

‘But I felt the team was okay in controlling the game and then we make the substitution.

‘We had to choose someone to go out and we had to think about set-pieces also so that was my choice.’

Some football pundits, including Mario Melchiot, have said that players like Garnacho have looked ‘lost’ since Amorim became boss in November.

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Saunders, meanwhile, accused Garnacho of ‘throwing his toys out of the pram’ against Ipswich.

‘He’s walking on thin ice, Garnacho, he is,’ Saunders said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

‘If you look at the league table, there’s not a player at Man United who can complain to the manager for not playing or getting brought off, look where they are in the league.

‘And if he’s, from what I’ve heard, he’s arguing with the manager, he’s arguing with the tactics and he’s throwing his toys out the pram when he gets brought off.

‘He’s going to ruin his career if he carries on.’
