The little market town on border of England and Wales named one of UK's best

A charming market town located on the border of England and Wales has been named one of the UK’s best for walks.

Kington sits on the River Arrow at the base of Hergest Ridge, offering stunning countryside views and a rich history.

Home to around 3,000 residents, the town has been hailed a "centre for walking".

Hergest Ridge in the town is the most popular walking trail that offers breathtaking views over Herefordshire and Wales. The ridge was an inspiration for Mike Oldfield’s album Hergest Ridge.

One of the visitors who has been to the spot wrote on TripAdvisor forum: “Hergest Ridge is a very pleasant stroll. It's not too hard to ascend, just a gentle climb (but it does go on a bit before you reach the top).

“There are great views back towards Hay-on-Wye and the black mountains and equally beautiful views of the rolling countryside in all directions.

“There's also the famous Monkey Puzzle trees, standing alone in the landscape. All in all, this a great place for a bit of solitude or to bring the family for a picnic.”

Another walking spot where tourists can enjoy the stunning landscapes, historical sites, and challenging hikes is Offa’s Dyke Path.

Offa’s Dyke Path is a 177-mile long-distance walking trail that follows the historic earthwork built by King Offa of Mercia in the 8th century. The path runs along the England-Wales border.

Most of the travellers who managed to complete the trail has termed it as “superb”.

A tourist wrote: “Finally completed the last sections of this walk. We have completed this on odd long weekends over several years and amazingly for the most part have had fantastic weather which goes a long way to making a hike like this very enjoyable.

“We started in the south and walked north which I am pleased about as it means that you finish on the coast, not in the middle of nowhere.

“We broke we walk up differently to the guides to suit the distances we wanted to cover, especially on travelling days and although we did cover the odd 19miler we generally walked 10 to 12 miles a day. Many of the days have significant ascent and descent so consider this in your planning if you are like us and come from a flatter part of the country.

“We stayed in some lovely villages, ate great food and share drinks with some lovely people. A great national trail to do. Very well sign posted. Transport isn't easy and often 2 cars one parked at each end is the only way to go.”
