Who the fuck is Johnny Blue Skies? Fans may get the answer when Sturgill Simpson kicks off his 2025 headlining tour of that name in April. Simpson released his first album in three years, Passage du Desir, under the “Johnny Blue Skies” moniker in the summer of 2024.
Set to begin April 5 with a casino show in Durant, Oklahoma, the tour will play a mix of indoor and outdoor venues, including the Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama; two nights at Denver’s Mission Ballroom; the Mesa Amphitheatre in Mesa, Arizona; the BOK Center in Tulsa; and a pair of shows in Asheville, North Carolina, at the town’s ExploreAsheville.com Arena.
In between, there’s a smattering of festival appearances for Simpson and his band, like Stagecoach in Indio, California, and Bourbon & Beyond in Louisville, Kentucky. His headlining appearance at the FairWell Festival in Redmond, Oregon, is particularly notable: He’ll headline Night 2, while Tyler Childers, whose 2017 album Purgatory Simpson co-produced, headlines the first day.
An artist presale for Simpson’s tour begins Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. local time, while a general on-sale is set for Feb. 21, at noon local time. (Fans who purchase their tickets on Ticketmaster will be able to resell the tickets, at original price, if they cannot attend.)
Simpson’s Passage du Desir made Rolling Stone’s list of the 30 best country and Americana albums of 2024.
