Something looks very wrong in the invite to Trump and Starmer's press conference

Andrew Feinberg, a journalist at the Independent, tweeted a screenshot of the message he received giving him approval to attend the event.

It describes Sir Keir as ‘the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland’.

The more switched-on readers might have spotted it misses out a ‘Northern’ that could hardly be more crucial.

In one email, the White House appears to have made the bold and risky move to undo more than 100 years of history and reunite Britain with Ireland.

Feinberg wrote in his accompanying tweet: ‘Something seems off.’

He also tagged Irish republican political party Sinn Féin for good measure.

Sir Keir has now arrived at the White House for his high-stakes bilateral meeting with Donald Trump.

The PM is hoping to convince the President that he should be prepared to provide a security ‘backstop’ as part of his deal to end the war in Ukraine.

While most of the chatting will happen behind closed doors, the following press conference will be broadcast around the world.

It comes two days after French President Emmanuel Macron was widely praised for his handling of a similar press conference, in which he openly disagreed with Trump on who should pay for the war.

Tomorrow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also due to make the trip to the White House in what could prove to be a fateful week for his country.
