Soap star dies aged 39 as cause of death confirmed and tributes pour in

Francisco San Martin, known for his role in US soap Days of Our Lives, has tragically passed away at the age of 39. The actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Thursday, according to reports.

His co-stars have been paying tribute, including Camila Banus who played his on-screen sister Gabi. She shared a heartfelt message on Instagram: "Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho. I wish I had told you more."

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office informed Hollywood LA News that the actor is believed to have taken his own life.

San Martin was recognised for his portrayal of Dario Hernandez in the long-standing drama Day of Our Lives. Born in Spain, he moved to Montana, USA during his childhood.

He first dipped his toes into acting through children's theatre shows before transitioning into modelling. After years of training as a teenager, he finally got his big break with Days of Our Lives, appearing in several episodes from 2010 to 2011, reports the Mirror.

His other notable roles include a part in the 2013 film Behind the Candelabra and a return to daytime TV in 2017 with a role in The Bold and the Beautiful. He featured in 16 episodes as groundskeeper Mateo on the CBS show.

That same year, he portrayed estate manager Fabian Regalo del Cielo in the popular series Jane the Virgin.

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Francisco, with heartfelt tributes flooding in. Journalist Michael Fairman expressed his disbelief: "Very, very sad. I am a bit in shock, as I saw Francisco at my gym most every day."

Another fan lamented: "So sad to hear about the death of Francisco San Martin, a star from Days of Our Lives and Jane the Virgin. He was only 39! His contributions to television will never be forgotten."

A third person simply stated: "RIP Francisco San Martin. Sad news."

In related sombre news, last month saw the passing of another Days of Our Lives icon, Wayne Northrop, aged 77. His wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, honoured him with a touching statement: "Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's 6 years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family."

"We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, The Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him. Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humour and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many."

Northrop was renowned for his role as Detective Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives, spanning from 1981 to 1984, with returns in the '90s and mid-2000s.
