The teenager who died in a school stabbing earlier today has been named locally as heartbroken family members and friends post tributes to the teen on social media.

All Saints Catholic High School, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, had reported to parents that a “serious incident” happened earlier today. Messages sent to families say: "Students will be released when police give permission.”

A teen was stabbed at the school at about 12.17pm while another teenage boy was detained by the police. And now the death of the teen has been confirmed.

The victim has now been named locally as Harvey Willgoose, with friends paying tribute on social media, with tributes being paid on social media.

One friend wrote: "Please can we give one off my best mates a clap off honour on the 15th minute on Saturday to remember him, Big Blade who followed his team up and down the country wouldn't turn a game down for the blades."

And another said: "Sheffield United lost one of our own today. Stabbed to death on his lunch hour at school. This country is an absolute joke!! Something needs to happen and it needs to happen fast!! Everyone needs to be united now to end this ****."

Another wrote: "Absolutely no words to this devastation. My heart absolutely breaks. RIP Harvey Willgoose I’m so sorry this has happened to you you really didn’t deserve this." Another added: "A city numb from this afternoons news, questions need to be ask, punishments need to be raised for anyone using or carrying knives too many innocent lives are been taken.

Speaking outside the force’s headquarters, South Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield said: “It is with great sadness that I share with you today, a teenager has died following the stabbing at a Sheffield school earlier today.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the boy, his friends and the whole school community. At 12.17pm, emergency services were called to All Saints Catholic High School on Granville Road.

“The victim, a 15-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, he sadly died a short time later. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in our custody at this time.

“We know that what has happened will cause significant distress and concern. “I would like to reassure you that our officers will remain on scene and in the local area to offer reassurance to parents, staff and local residents as our investigation continues.
