Saturday Kitchen host tells guest 'we didn't get memo' after awkward admission

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt found himself in an awkward situation with guest Alfie Boe on Saturday's show.

The 51-year-old presenter welcomed the legendary vocalist to the show alongside Welsh culinary wizard Bryn Williams, who was all set to whip up a storm for Matt's esteemed guests.

Bryn, proudly representing Wales, was eager to showcase his signature dish featuring succulent pink lamb cutlets paired with a vibrant tomato, onion, and courgette ratatouille.

While most in the studio were buzzing about Bryn's meal choice, Alfie seemed less than keen to join in with compliments. When Matt approached the topic of Alfie's food heaven and hell, a segment where guests divulge their most and least favourite dishes, with the audience voting on what they'll end up eating, things took an awkward turn, reports the Express.

As everyone dug into the meal, Alfie revealed his distaste for a key component in Bryn's seasonal creation, leaving both Matt and the TV chef stunned.

The Les Miserables star admitted: "I am a huge fan of Italian food, as you know, so any pasta dish. My hell is aubergines, I've tried parmigiano and I just think they're so mushy and unless you dry them out properly they're just so mushy."

Alfie then revealed: "Courgette as well." Realising he might've put his foot in it given that Bryn's ratatouille included the vegetable, he quickly backpedalled saying: "Sorry about the ratatouille."

After the awkward admission, Matt teased Bryn with: "Didn't get that memo, did we?" to which the chef joked: "No we didn't."

Despite the minor setback, Bryn pressed on with preparing the lamb, and promptly presented the steaming plate to Alfie for tasting. Against all odds, Alfie tucked in and was grinning from ear-to-ear.

He praised the cook: "Amazing, wonderful, you've won me over on the courgette's actually."

Later in the show, more apologies were in the offering as Matt rolled up his sleeves to present his culinary tribute. It was Rick Stein day tomorrow (Sunday, 2 March), and he took creative liberties, adapting Rick's Montpellier Butter but swapping the usual Salmon for Hake which can sometimes have bones.

As Alfie bit into the fish, Matt spotted trouble and couldn't help but ask: "Did you just take a mouthful of bones."

With a swift nod, Alfie confirmed, "I did," prompting a sheepish apology from Matt: "Sorry about that I should have said be careful there are bones in that."

Brushing off the hiccup with a chuckle, Alfie quipped, "That's ok, I only have to sing with the choir at the end."
