Russia has decided to announce it is 'no threat' to the UK in a bizarre rant on Elon Musk's X.
The post goes on to list a few areas that Brits can continue to feel safe, including the NHS.
The Russian Embassy to UK wrote: "Russia poses no threat to the UK: neither in its waters, airspace, nor streets & certainly not to Britain's long-suffering NHS. "We have no need to do so. It is the UK government that needs these fabrications to avoid dealing with the country’s real social & economic problems."
The post was completed with a photo of a union jack with the words "Russia poses no threat to the UK" over it. Some social media fans weren't convinced, however, with one leaving the comment: "Isn’t that exactly what you said before you invaded Ukraine?"
Another simply added a confused face emoji, questioning the original message.
The message sent by the Russian Embassy comes on the same day that Donald Trump and Keir Starmer are due to meet to discuss world issues. When Starmer meets Trump later on today (February 27), thoughts are they will be discussing security guarantees for Ukraine that might follow a ceasefire with Russia.
Starmer has previously suggested that the UK may send military members to the country as a peacekeeping force, if a truce is agreed. According to reports, there are around 30,000 British troops ready to go in.
However, Trump has so far excluded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during negotiations over a possible minerals deal. It is thought Trump is bargaining with Russia for resources in Ukraine.
Now, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha says that a focus on getting “boots on the ground” might not even go far enough to guarantee Ukraine’s protection.
“Securing Ukraine’s sky and sea is equally, if not more important,” he suggests in a social media post. “Land, sky, and sea must all be in focus”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, currently in Istanbul with US representatives, shed light on diplomatic talks today. “Today’s meeting in Istanbul is at expert level," reports the BBC.
"Our diplomats are working to develop the understanding that was reached in the telephone conversation between the two presidents and the agreements reached in Riyadh by the high-level delegations. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves for now.”
On prospects for repairing relations between Russia and the US, the Kremlin spokesman said “nobody expects quick and easy decisions”, but added that they can be mended if the two countries continue displaying the current “political will”.
