Romelu Lukaku trains for first time since bombshell interview

Romelu Lukaku trained with his Chelsea team-mates on Friday afternoon as the fallout over his Sky Sports Italia interview continues.

In new footage released on Friday, Lukaku revealed his desire to return to Inter amid his 'unhappiness' at Stamford Bridge following his £98million move four months ago.

After initial clips of the interview showed the Belgium international admitting he was not happy with life at his new club, further footage has only served to strengthen that view - with Lukaku also claiming he wanted to stay in Italy in the summer.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel took a dim view of the interview and admitted he was not happy with the footage during his press conference on Friday morning.

'I don't like it because it's noise that we don't need. We need a calm environment and focus and this does not help,' he told reporters.

However, both were back on the training pitch on Friday afternoon, as they focus their attentions on their clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea host their Premier League rivals with both having lost ground on runaway league leaders Manchester City in recent days.

The Blues are in second, a point ahead of Liverpool but eight behind Pep Guardiola's men, and there is little room for mistakes as they prepare for their first game of 2022.

Chelsea were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in their last match of 2021, as Danny Welbeck's stoppage time equaliser rescued a point for Brighton on Wednesday evening.

There was, however, more positive signs for Chelsea on Friday, with both Timo Werner and Thiago Silva back in training.

The Brazilian central defender missed the clash with Graham Potter's men with a knee problem, while Werner had been missing since December 16 after testing positive for Covid.
