Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after a man in his 20s was set upon and raped in a city street.
Northumbria Police explained how the terrified victim was attacked in an area near Pottery Lane in Newcastle upon Tyne, shortly before 2am on February 9th.
Detectives are now looking for a man described as white with a tanned complexion, aged 30 to 40 and around 6ft - he wore a dark hooded top and had a stocky or muscular build.
Police added that the man was also reported to have spoken in "a strong Geordie accent".
The force said it was particularly keen to speak to a potential witness, a man believed to be in his 40s, who was walking in the area at the time.
Det Cons Jennifer Myles, of Northumbria Police, said: "This is an extremely difficult time for the victim and they continue to be supported by specialist officers.
"As soon as we were made aware of the report, we began an investigation and have been carrying out extensive enquiries.
"We are now appealing to the public for help and asking anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, or anyone who has information about what happened to come forward.
"This includes a potential witness, a man who was walking in the area.
"If you do have any information, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, please do come forward as it really could assist with our enquiries."
Police said that "extensive enquiries" have been ongoing, including a review of CCTV, to identify the person responsible and the traumatised victim continues to be supported by specialist officers.
Officers area appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have any information to come forward.
Witnesses have been urged to contact police quoting reference number 015349S/25.
