Rafa Benitez remains keen on landing another Premier League job after turning down a coaching gig in Brazil last month.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle boss is currently a man without work and has an impressive CV that would attract plenty of owners if they were looking for a new manager. Benitez's last job was in his homeland with Celta Vigo, but he left that role a year ago.
His last spell in England didn't go as planned with Everton hiring him and then firing him within six months as they sat near the bottom of the table. Benitez can boast league title victories on his resume, as well as the Champions League in 2005 with the Reds.
He has no intentions of retiring and is already preparing for his next job - he almost joined Brazilian side Botafogo last month. The 64-year-old insists he's never short of offers but his ultimate goal is to get back in the English top flight.
Benitez said: "Yes, it was very close. I had a very good conversation with the owner and also the director of football. They impressed me because they were very ambitious. But it was too far away.
"Then you have to analyse all the details, and my family is here. I was very happy with the approach because I liked the way that they approached. Very professional. And the ideas were very good.
"I have had a lot of offers during the year. But I was always waiting for the Premier League because it's the league that I like. You have to choose the right opportunity and hopefully it will come soon."
Benitez was spotted in the stand at the Etihad Stadium last month for Manchester City's Champions League clash with Real Madrid, another of his former clubs. Benitez was sat next to new England boss Thomas Tuchel.
He is currently among the favourites to take the Rangers job as the Scottish giants looking for their next permanent manager. He wouldn't be the first ex-Liverpool boss to head north of the border with Brendan Rodgers now into his second stint at Celtic, but a switch to Ibrox would appear unlikely at this stage.
