Princess Kate swaps style notes with Princess Anne re-wearing 20 year old blazer

Princess Kate is renowned for her sustainable contributions to fashion and often re-wears staples. For her latest look, she had to dig deep into her wardrobe as she pulled out a piece that is two decades old, which was very similar to Princess Anne’s look that she also wore earlier this week.

The Princess of Wales, 43, and her husband Prince William took a trip to South Wales on Thursday, which was their first official joint engagement in 15 months. This was due to Princess Kate scaling back her Royal duties following her cancer diagnosis and treatment last year.

Despite donning a red vibrant Alexander McQueen coat by Sarah Burton for their first stop in Pontypridd, Kate later changed into a timeless ensemble. In a nod to the people of Wales, the Princes chose an outfit that featured the colours of the Welsh flag.

She later changed into a brown tweed jacket, which was reportedly purchased from Ralph Lauren. However, the piece is not new and dates back to 2007, during the early years of her relationship with Prince William.

Most people throw out clothes they have not worn in years, but Princess Kate is a globally celebrated fashion icon, so it comes as no surprise that she held onto her jacket for at least 18 years.

Princess Kate and Prince William, 40, made a stop at Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland which is where Kate changed into the tweed coat.

She decided to pair this with a Gucci tartan midi skirt that features hues of brown and a black turtleneck sweater.

Eagle-eyed Royal fans were quick to spot the re-wear and pointed out that she was last seen in it back in 2007 – which was four years before she tied the knot with Prince William.

The couple attended one of the biggest events in the British social calendar, the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival.

Nearly 20 years ago, Kate decided to pair the jacket with a matching skirt and sunglasses for the day at the racecourse.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne looked radiant as she sported a similar look to Princess Kate when she carried out a Royal engagement meeting victims of Storm Bert in Lydney on the same day.

Princess Anne wore a rich forest green tone jacket that featured plush velvet cuffs and a coordinating collar. The coat’s buttons were also a darker hue of green and ran down the centre of the garment.

The Princess Royal, 74, is a long-standing champion of sustainable fashion and the women no doubt would bond over their shared passion.

She often opts to recycle her favourite looks and it appears that she has held onto her sophisticated tailored coat for over 20 years as she was pictured wearing the garment back in 2002 at Cheltenham – just like Kate.
