Prince Harry's swipe at royal life over politics in surprise appearance

Prince Harry made remarks about his unique royal upbringing during a surprise appearance at a venture capital event in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, addressed the crowd as he attended the Upfront Summit about approaching "everything in my life through the lens of service" and promised the attendees that he had something important to share with them.

During his speech, he revealed he had been investing and putting his focus into businesses that served the community and that had an ethos of driving change.

He told attendees: "I'm here to talk about something that I believe will resonate with all of you as leaders, creators, builders and changemakers: How do we invest in our shared future to solve the challenges we face today as a divided society?"

Harry noted that his royal upbringing gives him a unique apolitical perspective, stating: "I’m not one to be caught in the divide between left or right views, not cornered by a belief in blue or red, hell, I’ve never even been allowed to vote!"

Harry explained that service to others has always been his main keystone when building a better world. Adding: "From my institutional role traveling the world to my decade of duties in the military, I saw the power of serving others firsthand.

"My personal experiences overseas taught me that when you put others first, you build stronger, more sustainable systems."

He added investing in a "shared future" was different now he was living in America, compared to Great Britain. This appearance comes just weeks after the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, which Harry founded in 2014.
