Jannik Vestergaard had the Leicester City staff shocked when he bought his dog to training - and then asked them to watch it whilst he was put through his paces.
The Foxes continue to sit in the relegation zone after another loss in midweek, this time to West Ham, as Ruud van Nistelrooy's problems continue to stack up. Vestergaard is one of several players who live some distance away from the training, he personally presided in in London, but are allowed to commute to Leicester.
Every so often he stays at the five-star standard accommodation on the first floor of the training ground that players, staff and guests of the owners have used in the past.
Several members of staff were surprised to see that Vestergaard had brought his dog with him to stay at the training ground - walking it around the grounds before he reported for training.
Vestergaard later asked one of the club’s player liaison officers to take care of the dog. Such individuals are often hit with unique requests but for the staff at Leicester's facility, Seagrave, this still came as a surprise. The Telegraph reports that Vestergaard was given permission to bring his dog by the club on this one occasion as his family in London were away and there was no one to care for it. It was considered a "one-off" and is not a regular occurrence,
Alongside Vestergaard, Harry Winks and Conor Coady also commute to Leicester from other parts of the country. It is understood that it has develop a less-than-ideal spirit among the group. Vedstergaard has been known to depart the training ground soon after the end of sessions.
Van Nistelrooy has asked those players who commute that they had to spend more time in proximity to the club’s base as they squad look to rally in the final months of the season as an unwanted immediate return to the Championship looms.
The Foxes have continued to shake things up in a bid to retain their top flight status. On Monday, Leicester announced the departure of two staff members whom Van Nistelrooy had inherited, the first team coach Ben Dawson and Danny Alcock were both relieved of their duties.
Currently the three promoted sides occupy the three relegation spots. Leicester and Ipswich Town are currently five points shy of Wolves in 17th with a further ten points then to Everton in 16th, meaning that it is effectively one from Leicester, Ipswich and Wolves will survive with Southampton seemingly cut adrift at the bottom.
