Plane passenger dies in mid-flight horror as doctor 'failed to save them'

A passenger has died while on a flight back from Paris in horror scenes.

Another passenger, believed to be a doctor, tried to save the life of the victim, but it was too late. The incident happened aboard an Air France flight, heading to Boston. While the reason of death has not yet been confirmed, presumably pending and investigation, it has been described as a "medical emergency."

Official reports say State Police Detective Unit were the first responders, and headed to an unattended death onboard the flight following a landing. Emergency responders were also seen by several witnesses at the Boston airport on Tuesday night after the plane returned to ground.

Police are currently said to be looking into the death and whether it could be surrounded by suspicious circumstances. The identity of the passenger has not yet been revealed.

The Daily Star have reached out to Air France for comment.

Deaths on planes are rare, but when they happen cabin crew must follow a certain set of procedures "with respect and care." Firstly, the crew will record the time of death.

Then, the crew will try to move the body to a more secluded area, such as an empty row, crew rest area, or first class. If the plane is full, the body may be secured in the original seat with the seatbelt fastened.

The body will be covered with a blanket or put the person in a body bag. During this, the crew will be contacting ground staff and authorities to arrange what happens when the body lands.

When they officially make contact with the ground, plane crew will allow the other passengers to exit the aircraft in an orderly manner. Then, authorities will make their way onto the plane to seal with the situation.

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that medical emergencies occur about once every 600 flights. However, deaths from medical emergencies are extremely rare.

The leading cause of these deaths is said to be due to cardiac issues, such as heart attacks.
