Oscars UK presenter Jonathan Ross said he felt judged and shamed by staff at a hotel after he and his wife tried to watch television rather than use sex toys provided in their hotel room.
The famous broadcaster, 64, told his daughter on their podcast, ‘Reel Talk with Honey & Jonathan Ross’ that the incident occurred after he and his wife Jane Goldman spent Valentine's Day in a hotel in London.
He said that when they went into the hotel – accompanied by their beloved dogs - they found a draw of sex toys to their surprise, but decided not to use them and instead have a relaxing night in watching television.
Upon experiencing technical difficulties with the TV in their room, a technician was called who struggled to fix the problem. Jonathan said that eventually, the issues were fixed and they had a lovely evening, but it wasn’t until they were checking out the next day that the awkward incident occurred.
Jonathan recalled: “It was a sort of a sexy hotel so it was all dark inside and there were young, attractive, men and women working downstairs and when we got to the room, there was a drawer next to the room service fridge.
“It had sex toys in it that you could buy. They were really overpriced because they were high end vibrating toys, handcuffs, masks, feathers.
“But they were like £300. We didn’t partake in this, we had the dogs with us," he quipped. "I thought we’ll have a lovely bath in a big bath, we’ll order some room service and watch a movie in bed."
He continued: “When we checked out, they said ‘Did you have a nice time? Did you have a lovely stay?' I said, ‘The TV didn't work and it should be quite a simple fix, and I do think that should be a minimum requirement for a room.
“She went, ‘Oh yes, people who stay here don’t use the TV very much’. Don’t shame me into thinking I should have paid for your overpriced vibrator, just because I wanted to watch The 1% Club! I felt like they were judging me, frankly," he humorously pointed out.
Whilst Jonathan didn’t enjoy the cheeky "judgemental" remark, ahead of fronting the coverage of the Oscars for ITV, he judged who he thought would and wouldn’t win.
The Masked Singer panellist said he felt Aardman Animations, who produce the Wallace & Gromit films, will struggle to win because of the quality of the opposition.
He predicted: “Wallace & Gromit have their first nomination in 15 years but here's the thing, I'm so excited and pleased to see Wallace & Gromit get nominated because those films are masterpieces.
“It's just unfortunate for them that they're in a year where there's another animated film I think, which is as good if not better than any other one made, which is Inside Out 2.
“Which is just amazing scripting, amazing emotional connection, incredibly kind of truthful and honest about that difficult period in people's lives. So I suspect that's going to be the win on the night, but it's so heartening to see a Aardman getting nominated.”
