Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names two Man Utd stars Ruben Amorim should refuse to sell

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire are key players at Old Trafford, having signed them both when he was in charge.

Solskjaer spent two-and-a-half years as United boss before he was sacked in 2022 and Fernandes and Maguire were both integral members of his side. The pair remain mainstays under current United manager Ruben Amorim and Solskjaer is delighted to see them "doing well".

"It's still good to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry (Maguire) doing well," Solskjaer said in an interview with the Athletic. "And Scotty [Scott McTominay] is doing well at Napoli. I'm upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals. His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important."

Fernandes is currently captaining the Red Devils, having taken the armband from Maguire when Erik ten Hag was the manager, and Solskjaer has previously hailed the duo's leadership qualities. Speaking last year, Solskjaer said: "I knew Bruno Fernandes had captain qualities when I was manager at Manchester United.

"He's got the personality and quality – but he knows and I've told him – that he’s too passionate at times and he loses a bit of control. I loved Harry Maguire as a captain, he was the leader in that group for me when I was at the club.

"I remember his first training session and he looked like a man mountain compared to the others, and he came in and played well, but obviously over time, he got lots of criticism."

And Maguire recently said he gets on well with Fernandes, telling BBC Match of the Day: "Me and Bruno and I have a great relationship. When I was captain, he supported me brilliantly. I trust him so much and I'm sure he trusts me as well.

"Now, obviously, he's captain and we both see ourselves as leaders. When I was captain, I felt like Bruno was a leader in his own right as well and I trusted his opinion and we worked off each other and I think it's the same now he's captain as well."
