Disney+ subscribers are being encouraged to tune into a new documentary series that's been leaving viewers gobsmacked with its "jaw-dropping" twists. The series, titled Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, was released on Thursday (February 27) and delves into the downfall of YouTube blogger and mother-of-six, Ruby Franke.
The three-part series explores Ruby Franke's rise to fame on social media, the success of the Franke family's YouTube channel 8 Passengers, and Franke's arrest for child abuse in August 2023.
As Disney+ puts it: "When popular vlogger Ruby Franke is arrested for child abuse in August 2023, it quickly becomes one of the biggest trending stories in America.
"For years, the Frankes' YouTube channel had documented a wholesome, happy family life, with nearly 3 million subscribers tuning in at its peak.
"But happy families are rarely what they seem. As the cracks began to show, the family turned to counsellor Jodi Hildebrandt for guidance – and rapidly found themselves trapped in a nightmare. Only the Frankes know what went on inside their home."
The documentary includes footage from the Franke family's YouTube channel and interviews with Franke's estranged husband Kevin Franke and two of their eldest children – son Chad and daughter Shari.
Surrey Live reports they also detail the abuse they suffered at the hands of Ruby and its lasting impact. Since its debut on Disney+, Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke has rocketed to the top of the streaming service's charts, surpassing A Thousand Blows, Win or Lose and Paradise.
Audiences have been glued to their screens and tweeting up a storm about the "insane" and "jaw-dropping" docuseries, prompting urgent recommendations to stream it. On X, the new Twitter-like platform, one user posted: "Watching this documentary Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke. Lost for words. Those kids man."
