Mass shooter suspect 'who killed 10' identified as loner with 'social phobia'

The man suspected of carrying out the 'worst mass shooting' in Sweden's history has been named by local media as Rickard Andersson.

Swedish outlet Expressen shared an image of Andersson, 35, earlier today. The shocking incident saw eleven people dead after an attack at Risbergska School in Örebro.

Police did not immediately name the shooter but relatives of Andersson have come out to the Swedish press. They said he had “extreme social phobia” and always walked with his “hood up.”

The relatives said he was having a hard time and was a unmarried, unemployed, and a loner.

One relative said: “He's really a loner. He used to have a friend he hung out with a lot, but not now. He wants to be by himself. He doesn't seem to like people.”

According to Expressen, Andersson was not on the police's radar before the attack took place and investigators are still trying to discover a motive, but it is believed the attacker acted alone.

A police statement said: "We are also continuing with intensive investigative work to understand the circumstances surrounding the perpetrator and are trying to create a picture of whether more people are involved. We will return to the motive behind the shooting later."

Andersson's apartment on Storgatan in Örebro remains cordoned off and pictures show the balcony window broken through.

The shooter turned the gun on himself after killing eleven people.

The number of injured is still unclear and very little has been said publicly about the victims.

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the tragedy as the 'worst mass shooting in Swedish history, adding: “Today, we have witnessed brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people.”

He said: “My thoughts, the thoughts of all of Sweden, are now with first and foremost with those who are the direct victims of this heinous act. Your grief is our grief. We are with you.”
