Man Utd release update on Liverpool clash as heavy snow threatens to cancel game

Manchester United and Liverpool's Premier League fixture will go ahead.

The Red Devils' trip to Anfield was thrown into doubt due to heavy snowfall on Merseyside overnight. A statement read: "Following a second safety meeting, it has been decided that today's match between Manchester United and Liverpool will go ahead.

"There have been snowfall and weather warnings across the North West on Sunday but it has been deemed safe for fans to attend the 16:30 GMT kick-off. Take care if you are travelling to Merseyside today, Reds."

Liverpool added: "Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions.

"We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there."

The Premier League also released a statement: "Liverpool's Premier League fixture with Manchester United, scheduled to take place at 16:30 GMT on Sunday, will go ahead as planned.

"The city of Liverpool and the region of the North West of England were hit by snow overnight. Following two safety meetings, in which the weather and travel conditions were assessed, it was decided the match can go ahead."

Liverpool City Council added: "#News: Today’s match between #LFC v #MUFC has been given approval by the city’s Ground Safety Advisory Group. Given the snowy conditions fans are asked to drive and walk carefully to #Anfield stadium. Enjoy the game!"

Liverpool have already had one game cancelled this season due to high winds. And their Boxing Day fixture was also thrown into doubt when high winds threatened to postpone that.
