A man has been stabbed in the leg in a brazen broad daylight attack in a B&M store in front of terrified shoppers. The victim's condition has been described as "very poorly" as the police have made one arrest.
Officers were called to the scene in Preston at 12.30pm today following reports of an assault. A man in his 40s was found with a stab wound to his leg inside the discount retail store.
One man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "You may have seen a significant police presence in Preston city centre this afternoon and we wanted to tell you why.
"At 12.37pm we were called to B and M Bargains in Carlisle Street following reports of an assault.
"Our officers have attended and found a man in his 40s had suffered a stab wound to his leg.
"He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as very poorly.
"A man has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery and remains in custody.
"This is not being treated as a terror-related incident and we would ask that people do not engage in any unhelpful speculation.
"Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log 572 of February 26, 2025."
