A lorry driver has died after reports of a crash between a truck and a car on the M6 last night.
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed the death, according to Stoke on Trent live. Police remain at the scene and motorists have been warned that the southbound carriageway between J16 and J15 is likely to be closed "for a number of hours".
An ambulance, paramedic officer, BASICS emergency doctor, MERIT trauma doctor, critical care paramedic, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were all dispatched to the scene.
A spokeswoman said: "On arrival crews found two men. The first patient, the driver of the lorry, was found in a critical condition and sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
"The second patient, the driver of the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed under blue lights and sirens to the Royal Stoke University Hospital."

National Highways estimated that the motorway won't re-open until between 8:15 and 8:30pm this evening.
Originally, it said it could be opened again before 3pm.
Lorry driver out of his cab during crash as police appeal for witnesses
Staffordshire Police said the lorry driver was out of his cab at the time of the collision as his truck had broken down.
Last night's crash invovled a a Toyota Avensis and a white MAN Truck HGV.
The force is now appeling for witnesses to come forward: "We are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision on the M6 southbound near Stoke-on-Trent.
"We were called at 9.55pm last night (Thursday 27 February) to reports of a collision involving a Toyota Avensis and a white MAN Truck HGV on the M6 between junctions 15 and 16 southbound.
"Sadly, the driver of the HGV, who was out of the HGV as it had broken down, died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
"The driver of the Toyota was taken to hospital with leg and facial injuries. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
"We are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area with any information or dashcam footage which could help collision investigators.

Roads may be re-opened by 3:30pm
An update from the Highways Agency traffic map at around midday said: "The event is expected to clear between 15:15 and 15:30 on 28 February 2025. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 15:15 and 15:30."

National Highways: West Midlands wrote on X: "The M6 in Staffordshire remains closed south J16 (Crewe) - J15 (Stoke-on-Trent) following a serious collision with the carriageway likely to remain closed throughout the day.
"There are severe delays of up to 90 minutes."

"This is a protracted police closure and the carriageway will remain closed throughout the day for ongoing investigation work at the scene."

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M6 in Staffordshire is closed southbound between Junction 16 near Crewe and Junction 15 near Stoke-on-Trent due to a serious collision.
"This is a protracted police closure and the carriageway is unlikely to reopen before the morning peak period. The closure is expected to remain ongoing for several hours.
"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
