Luke Littler wins maiden UK Open title with 11-2 demolition of James Wade

Luke Littler has won his first UK Open title with an 11-2 demolition job over James Wade in the final at Minehead.

The Warrington teen had earlier dismissed Jonny Clayton 11-6 in the semi-final to reach the showpiece game and showed his ruthless side to sweep aside an out-of-sorts Wade.

It marks a fifth TV major for the Nuke since he burst on to the scene at Ally Pally in December 2023. Since reaching the final on his debut year on the biggest stage, he has gone on to win the World Championship, Premier League, Grand Slam and World Series Finals.

Now, he has added the UK Open to his trophy cabinet as he threatens to dominate the oche. His wins over Clayton and Wade followed victories over Gian van Veen, Krzysztof Ratajski, Jermaine Wattimena and Peter Wright earlier in the competition.

He was made to work by Wright and Ratajski in particular, winning 10-9 and 10-8 respectively. But there were no such jitters against Wade in the final.

Littler said: "It was one I wanted to win. It's my third time here, I came here two years ago as a 16-year-old then made the quarter-final last year and now I've gone two better this year to win it.

"I had a job to do. I just wanted to pick up the trophy and it's one that I can tick off the list now."

Although he failed to produce in the final, Wade's run marks a timely return to form. He produced some of his best darts to beat world No.1 Luke Humphries 10-9 in the quarter-finals and dished out an 11-2 beating of his own to Josh Rock in the last four.

But he couldn't replicate those displays against Littler and failed to land a fourth UK Open title.
