London hospital took my beloved £20 Primark trousers and I will take them to court

That is exactly what happened to Myrtle McBean, 74, who spent a week in King’s College Hospital in mid-December.

The grey trousers she was taken to hospital in were her favourite £20 pair from Primark, but now they have gone missing.

Myrtle realised they had disappeared when left hospital and after she had asked a friend to purchase a new pair to get home.

She is now pledging to a launch a legal case against King’s College Hospital if they refuse to reimburse her.

Myrtle said: ‘I had them over a year and a half, and they were the only grey trousers I own.

‘I am struggling, I have cancer and heart problems, and I live on my own. I can’t go to the shop every minute.

‘Those trousers were part of my clothing that I have taken care of for this length of time and I should be reimbursed.’

The retiree’s visit to hospital was hectic. She was taken in after a reaction to some heart medication and was moved between three wards during her week long stay.

At the third ward, she clocked her precious grey were gone but Staff told her they could not be found.

She said after contacting the NHS’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), she was told to wait a month to give then to find the trousers.

Now she claims the hospital demanded a receipt for the Primark trousers.

She said: “They said they would send me a form but they haven’t and it’s been a week now, it doesn’t take that long.

“It makes me very angry.”

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to Ms McBean for the distress and inconvenience this has caused.’

The Trust then announced they had found an ‘amicable’ resolution to the problem: ‘We are sorry again for the distress and inconvenience caused, and we are pleased to have been able to reach an amicable resolution with Ms McBean.’

They declined to comment further on the solution.

This is not the first time items have gone missing at British hospitals.

Last year a family were ‘devastated’ after a lady’s wedding ring and eternity ring went missing after she died at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
