Liverpool have confirmed that Jayden Danns has left the club to join Sunderland hours after the January transfer window slammed shut.
The 19-year-old striker’s loan move to Sunderland has finally been confirmed after the deadline day deal was hampered by an issue raised in his medical.
Danns was undergoing tests ahead of the move but problems were reportedly flagged with his back. Despite the deal eventually going through, Danns is returning to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre to complete rehabilitation.
Liverpool also announced that prior to his Championship loan move, Danns signed a new long-term contract at Anfield having impressed Arne Slot in his limited minutes since recently returning from injury.
Danns progressed through the Reds’ Academy and has made nine senior appearances since making his debut under Jurgen Klopp last February, with all three of his goals coming in the FA Cup.
The England youth international made his return from injury in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Southampton before he scored against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last month.
Danns later made his Champions League bow in the defeat to PSV Eindhoven last week. But the Reds will be hoping he can recover from his latest setback soon and find more regular minutes in the Championship over the remainder of the season.
The teenager will eventually link up with Regis Le Bris’ promotion-chasing side as Sunderland look to return to the Premier League after eight years away. The Black Cats picked up a crucial three points at Middlesbrough on Monday night to move five points behind league leaders Leeds United.
