Liverpool and Everton turns ugly as players brawl after the full-time whistle

Liverpool and Everton players brawled after the full-time whistle.

Everton had sent Goodison Park into dreamland when James Tarkowski powered home in added time to fire the Toffees level. And after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was confirmed.

Abdoulaye Doucoure was celebrating the point in front of the Liverpool fans when Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones clocked what was happening made a dash for the Everton man.

Jones bundled into the midfielder - and players piled in as stewards desperately tried to pull players apart. Michael Oliver also tried to get a hand on the situation - and he flashed cards to players deemed at fault.

Arne Slot even pushed his way onto the pitch - and he too was sent off after confronting Oliver.

Jones and Doucoure were also shown red cards for their role in the brawl.

"The referee issued second yellow cards and red cards to Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucouré following an altercation after the final whistle," a statement said.

"Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also shown straight red cards after the final whistle."

Everton had taken the lead in the first half, through Beto, before Alexis Mac Allister nodded level. Mohamed Salah thought he had won the game for the Reds until Tarkowski hit back at the death.

Goodison Park erupted, with fans on the pitch during the famous evening, but it quickly fell silent again as VAR checked a potential offside and foul in the build-up.

It took two minutes, before VAR awarded the goal and Goodison was alive again.

A statement read: "The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by the VAR- who established that Doucouré was in an onside position in the build-up."

"Amazing to score, what an amazing night," Tarkowski said when he was speaking on TNT Sports. "I just saw the ball going wide and thought, last minute, why not?

"I don't score many so I thought it would have been typical if it had been disallowed. I had a tough weekend so it was nice to get one back.

"I'm proud of my team tonight because it's a tough game against these, we stuck at it."
