Keir Starmer 'stressed and nervous' as Donald Trump sends 'warning' to PM

Sir Keir Starmer appeared "stressed and nervous" during his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House, according to a body language expert.

The Prime Minister, who is under pressure to discuss important issues such as the war in Ukraine and trade tariffs, met with the US president for crucial talks.

Mr Trump, who has been vocal on foreign policy, was seen asserting control throughout the meeting, according to expert Inbaal Honigman.

Honigman, speaking on behalf of Genting Casino, analysed the body language of both leaders and suggested that Trump was determined to come out on top.

She said: “Trump pops out through the door, rolls his feet back and forth, so he’s a bit nervous.

“He steps backwards one step, and we can see that his hands are clenched into fists. The leader of the free world is tense about meeting the UK Prime Minister.”

However, she claimed that Trump quickly regained confidence, greeting Starmer with a strong handshake and placing his hand on the Prime Minister’s bicep, a gesture of control.

Trump was also spotted giving a thumbs-up to the press before turning away without answering questions.

Honigman said: “It is Trump that decides that they’re not staying for questions - we know this because Trump pats Starmer on the shoulder to say ‘let’s go’.”

While Trump controlled the pace of the meeting, Honigman suggested that Starmer showed signs of nervousness.

She said: “Grooming gestures such as touching clothes or body parts can be an expression of nervousness, even insecurity. A desire to keep yourself neat and presentable can betray a sense of stress.”

Starmer was seen adjusting the cuffs of his jacket as he stood beside Trump.

Although he displayed a genuine smile, Honigman claimed that small gestures like this suggest he was keen to make a good impression.

Despite this, Starmer maintained a friendly approach. As the meeting ended, he tapped Trump’s arm in what Honigman described as a “friendly gesture.”

The meeting between the two leaders carried high stakes, with Starmer expected to discuss Ukraine, trade tariffs, and the future of the Diego Garcia military base.

He also delivered an invitation from King Charles for Trump to make a second state visit to the UK.

The war in Ukraine was expected to dominate discussions, with the Prime Minister aiming to secure a deal to help end the conflict.
