Kate and William 'following in Meghan and Harry's footsteps' with major change

A new, more relaxed and intimate style of presentation from the Prince and Princess of Wales suggests that William and Kate have taken a leaf out of Harry and Meghan’s book, according to royal commentator Charlene White.

Speaking on the Talking Royal podcast, she observed that the royal couple had been notably more tactile than usual with each other on their visit to Wales, echoing the openly affectionate behaviour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the recent Invictus Games.

Royal expert Lizzie Robinson, who accompanied the Prince and Princess on their trip, says that this new, warmer style is part of a new approach from William and Kate: “They posted these images on their social media of Kate and William going to the train station, and they were holding hands."

She added: "Recently we've had quite personal messages posted on social media. We had the Valentine's Day post. We had a very touching post from Prince William for Kate's birthday. And I think they're sharing a little bit more of that intimate and personal side than perhaps we've seen in the past from them.”

Charlene agreed, saying that from her perspective, William and Kate’s new, more open style showed a more “Americanised” way of presenting the royal family. She added that it seemed to have benefitted Harry and Meghan, so it wasn’t too surprising that William and Kate would be tempted to follow suit.

She said: "Ever since [Harry and Meghan] got together, holding hands, being very tactile, being very soppy with each other, we've seen a lot of that and that’s well, for an American market, it may not always play out so well here, but it does well in the American market."

Charlene went on:“So maybe they [William and Kate] are just following their footsteps, realising actually that …as lovers of the royal family, we like to see that.”

Lizzie said that, after a very tough 2024, with bombshell health dramas for both the King and the Princess of Wales, Kate in particular has found a new perspective on life: “The princess has spoken about how she has a new sort of view of the world,” Lizzie said, “and how important loved ones are and family are.

“Perhaps she has decided that actually showing off that side is important to her.”
