Kanye West and Bianca Censori will reportedly not face any legal consequences for their naked stunt at the Grammys.
Kanye and wife Bianca caused controversy at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday evening (February 2) when she revealed her body in a completely see-through mesh dress. She dropped her black fur coat to bare all on the red carpet after the controversial rapper appeared to instruct her to strip.
It was rumoured the stunt had gotten the pair ejected from the awards show after they were spotted exiting the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where the event was held. It's since been said Ye left of his own accord - with the rapper himself slamming the rumours they were removed.
But despite the backlash, it appears Kanye and Bianca will not get into trouble with the law for the daring stunt. It had been reported the daring display might have landed them in hot water with authorities.
But according to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department said no formal complaints were made to the police about Bianca's totally see-through mesh outfit. The source added that the annual awards show is a private event and that Kanye was an "invited guest".
Under California Penal Code 314(1), indecent exposure is defined as a person "exposing his or her naked body in front of anyone who could be annoyed or offended by it." The law also stated the act must be "willful and lewd" to constitute a crime.
To be convicted, the person must "intentionally expose yourself or naked body; expose yourself in front of someone who might be offended or annoyed by it; intend to direct attention to yourself; and intend to sexually gratify yourself or offend someone else when you do it."
It was believed the stunt could have landed Bianca in trouble with the law as some might argue that Bianca's daring red carpet outfit fits this description.
A first-time offender could be slapped with a six-month stint in jail or fined. Repeat offenders face felony charges, prison, and a decade on the sex offenders' register.
The stunt caused outrage on social media. One user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote: "kanye and that lady should be arrested for that stunt on the red carpet...... #GRAMMYs."
Another chimed in: "Every single time I have seen Kanye's wife naked was against my will," while a third pondered: "Kanye's wife is fully naked.... does this event not have a dress code...? #GRAMMYs."
