Jimmy Savile's Scottish lair on fire as emergency services rush to scene

Jimmy Savile's Scottish home has gone up in flames, according to reports. The isolated cottage once owned by paedophile Savile in Glencoe, Scotland, has been vacant since his death in 2011.

But tonight police have locked down the road and are urging people to avoid the area. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The A82 is closed in both directions between Tyndrum and Ballachulish Bridge following a report of a fire at a property around 5.40pm on Saturday, 8 February, 2025.

"Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are asked to avoid the area."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the blaze in Glencoe just after 5.30pm. A spokesperson said: "We were called at 17:36 and have three pumps in attendance."

Flames could be seen ripping through the beast's house as onlookers whipped out their phones to video the blaze.

There were fears it may become an Airbnb, with locals fearing the worst for the "cursed" cottage that has the words 'the beast' daubed on it.

Trashed and pilfered by trophy hunters, the property was sold at auction for £212,000.

It has stagnated since then however, and locals near the Highlands property fear retail tycoon Harris Aslam could turn the sinister location into a holiday hotspot.

The cottage was placed on sale following Savile's death wanted to destroy the property and build a "futuristic" home.

But National Trust for Scotland submitted an objection to this build and joined Mountaineering Scotland in slamming the potential new property.

They said the planned building's "substantially enlarged scale and contemporary design does not reflect Glen Coe's long-established, distinct built heritage and would insensitively dominate the landscape in this highly visible location at the heart of the Pass of Glen Coe."

Adding: "We believe that a building of deliberate contemporary styling in a prominent location in Glen Coe is without precedent and will distract and detract from the immersive experience of travelling through a landscape that is renowned and valued across the world."
