A Jet2 plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger died while onboard.
The plane was flying from Tenerife back to the UK, but had to divert to the Spanish mainland on Friday evening after a passenger reportedly suffered a fatal emergency. Flight LS676 took off from the Spanish Island at 7.05pm on Friday and was bound for the UK.
Local paper Diario de Avisos said: "A flight covering the Tenerife South-Nottingham route has been diverted on Friday afternoon to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport due to the indisposition of a passenger, who has finally died.
"The flight crew reported that they had a passenger with significant medical problems on board and need to be urgently diverted to the Compostela airport (on the Spanish mainland)."
Despite immediate treatment on hand, the man was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival on the runway.
The outlet added: "An ambulance from the Galician Health Emergency Service-061 was sent to the terminal in the Galician capital, whose medical staff confirmed the death of a man in his 70s."
A Jet2 spokesperson said: "We can confirm that flight LS633 from East Midlands to Tenerife South diverted to Manchester Airport earlier today, due to a technical issue. At no point was safety compromised, and the aircraft landed as normal before customers were transferred onto a replacement aircraft.
"We would like to apologise to customers for the delay."
The flight, which departed from East Midlands Airport just after 9am, was expected to reach the Spanish holiday destination in a little over four hours. However, after flying over the southern coast of Ireland, the aircraft was forced to make a U-turn and touch down at Manchester Airport an hour and a half later.
