Wrexham star James McClean has been in a car crash with his Audi RS6 appearing to be "written-off."
The 35-year-old midfielder was involved in the incident this morning according to eyewitnesses – a day before the Welsh side take on Birmingham in a top of the table clash. One fan said: "Just seen James McClean in a car crash.
"Written his car off and holding a bleeding arm. Doesn't look good. He was walking around his black Audi. Smashed up. Loads of cops."
The incident is said to have happened near Wrexham Golf Club, where the weather is extremely foggy this morning. One user on X posted a photograph of the Irish winger's vehicle being towed away, with the caption: "James McClean smashing up his car outside my golf club."
Another picture of the car shows a smashed windscreen and extensive body work damage like the car had rolled.
Emergency services were called to the incident in Holt Road, involving the Wrexham captain, who played in the Premier League with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion, and in the Championship for Wigan Athletic and Stoke City.
Wrexham confirmed that a first team player was involved in a crash on the way to training this morning. The statement said: "Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player has been involved in a car accident this morning on his way to training.
"It was a single car accident with no other vehicles involved and the relevant local authorities were quickly present at the scene. The player reported to the club this morning and will undergo further medical checks as a precaution."
North Wales Police added: "Shortly before 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 22), we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A534 in Wrexham, near to Wrexham Golf Club.
"Officers and colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10am. No serious injuries were reported from the scene."
The ex-Republic of Ireland international, who joined League Two Wrexham in 2023, is known for his highly publicised decision not to wear a poppy during the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
Just days ago he labelled Shrewsbury a 'cesspit full of inbreds' in a furious rant on Instagram after Wrexham's 2-1 defeat at The Croud Meadow.
McClean and his team-mates were subjected to jeers during the heated clash and he stoked the flames post-match by trying to engage with some of the home crowd before stewards intervened.
He also received a yellow card late in the game for protesting a decision. Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson downplayed the incident in his comments to Sky Sports, stating: "He's fine.
"James is used to it wherever he goes. Fans get on his back home and away and sometimes it can be tough and spill over but he is used to it."
However, on Saturday morning, McClean hit back via Instagram, potentially inviting disciplinary measures by disparaging the community surrounding the English club.
