Jade Thirlwall paid tribute to her Little Mix sisters as she won her first BRIT Award as a solo artist - and struggled to get up the stairs to collect her award.
The 32-year-old singer - who performs as Jade now she is solo - was overwhelmed when she was announced as the winner of the Best Pop Act gong. The singer beat off competition from Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Lola Young and Myles Smith to win the prize - and looked gobsmacked as her name was called out.
As she got up from her chair to collect her gone, she came dangerously close to taking a tumble on the stairs leading up to the stage as her huge dress collected under her dress. Iconic pop singers the Sugababes looked down anxiously as Jade stumbled on the steps and gathered up her skirts to cautiously make her way to the winners podium.
As she reached the microphone, she pulled out a crumpled piece of paper, confessing she was not expecting to win, and feared she would forget those most important to her if she didn't have them written down. She then launched into her touching speech, declaring: "I did do a little piece of paper in case I won... I know it's cringe, but you won't forget people.
"So firstly, my God, I'm flustered. I need to thank the fans, because that's why I've won this award. Thank you so much for supporting me and relentlessly forcing everyone around you to support me. I really appreciate it."
As she went on, she thanked a range of people that she works with, saying: "I want to thank my fabulous team around me, because it really does take a determined village to make a good pop act. So I'll be quick, but here we go. I want to thank my management, Amy, Kevin and Alana, my label, Jason, Eileen and Stacey, RCA, Joel, my incredible Ana and everybody at RCA. I'm so grateful all of the writers and producers I've had the pleasure to work with my promo, my digital and creative team, glam and styling. I mean, yeah, go off."
She then thanked even closer people to her, saying: "My partner, Jordan, my mom, dad, my brother, Carl, and all my family and friends always believed in me. Thank you for making me feel like it was a realistic goal to be a pop star ever since I was a little girl."
She then said: "And finally, finally, finally, my Little Mix sisters... It changed my life." As fans cheered Jade on for her speech, fans watching at home gushed over her win - and some expressed concern for her stage stumble.
One fan on X wrote: "NOT JADE STRUGGLING WITH THE STAIRS HELP #BRITS." Another typed: "Jade didn’t think that frock through did she #BRITs" - alongside a crying-with-laughter emoji. While another, cheering her on, wrote: "This angel has just bagged her first Brit as a soloist. Jade is your best Pop Act!! #BRITs."
