BRIT Award winner Jade Thirlwall has revealed that she was “ghosted” by a One Direction star after just one date.

While she may have risen to fame in 2011 after forming Little Mix on The X Factor, that wasn’t Jade’s first appearance on the show. Prior to being put into the girl band, the 32-year-old had auditioned for the singing competition on two other occasions, including in 2010 – the year that One Direction was formed.

It was during this time that the Angel Of My Dreams singer sparked a connection with fellow contestant Harry Styles. However, despite heading on a date together, Jade claimed that once Harry made it to the live shows with One Direction, he stopped contact with her.

Speaking to Louis Theroux on his podcast, she said: “I didn’t know he was going to be Harry Styles did I? I think we went on like one date when again, we were like 16 or something. Yeah, he’d just got put in the band. And it was really funny because we kept in touch.

“The minute they went on the live shows, he didn’t message me back and I thought that’s it now, he’s gone, he’s made it.”

Despite this, Jade added that Harry apologised to her a year later after she secured a spot in Little Mix. She continued: “And then I made it the next year and then I saw him in the room after, and he was like, I’m really sorry that I ignored you.’”

Louis then clarified: “He ghosted you?” Jade replied: “Yeah. I was so young, it didn't really matter. But he was always very, very lovely.”

While things weren’t to be between Jade and the former One Direction star, she has been loved up with Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens for almost five years. The pair met during the pandemic in May 2020 after Jade slid into his DMs.

Speaking to the Metro at the time, she explained: “We had real dates and really got to know each other. I wouldn’t say I was looking for anyone at the time.

“I was happy to be in lockdown because I am independent. I think you can still strive in your singleness in lockdown.”

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the couple were unable to meet up in person initially, so they had to get creative. “I met someone in lockdown. We met on Zoom. I slid into the DMs. Then we had some Zoom dates,” Jade previously said on The Jonathan Ross Show.

“Jordan and I did a few Zoom dates in lockdown,” she added. “We made a joke and said it was business. We put suits and ties on and asked each other questions. I did the full shebang, a full suit. Then we had a socially distanced date in Greenwich Park, apart from each other just chatting.”

Back in December, Jade opened up about her relationship with Jordan and made a raunchy confession while speaking to Greg James on BBC Radio 1. During a discussion about the gym, Greg said it was “annoying” how shorter men can get “big quite quickly” when working out, before turning his attention to Jade’s partner.

“Jordan’s quite tall isn’t he? He’s quite built isn’t he?,” he asked. In response, Jade said: “Yeah, he’s over 6ft. He’s got a lovely physique that one, a lovely bit of kit.”

Those in the studio burst into laughter, with Greg adding: “I’m afraid there’s no way we can’t make that into a social media clip. Sorry. We’ve got to give the people what they want. He’s got a fantastic rig and it needs to be celebrated.”

Jordan has also gushed over his girlfriend, and told MailOnline that they were in a “lovely place”. He said: “I have to give a shout out to my current girlfriend. The relationship I’m in now I feel secure and safe. I feel love and I feel connected to a person. I didn’t have an understanding that I could feel love like this.”
