A burglar has been jailed after CCTV caught him breaking into a Sainsbury's Local via a hole in the ceiling.
Steven McMahon was caught on camera dangling from the shop's ceiling in Radford, Nottinghamshire at 6:10am on Feburary 21.
The thief stole roughly £200 worth of National Lottery scratchcards, crisps, washing detergents and food before leaving via a fire exit.
Staff quickly called 999, and response officers were on the scene within six minutes, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Officers then found a man matching the burglar's description on nearby Forest Road.
McMahon was arrested and taken into custody before pleading guilty to burglary.
On February 22, he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court and was jailed for 22 weeks.
Sergeant Karl Browne, of the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said: "A rapid response by officers on duty allowed us to catch this burglar red-handed and I’m pleased he has also been dealt with swiftly by the courts.
"Commercial burglaries are taken very seriously by the force as we understand the financial impact on businesses and the emotional impact on members of staff.
"McMahon thought he could smash his way through the roof of a supermarket and take what he wanted so I’m pleased he has now been handed a spell behind bars."
