'I watched Bridget Jones’s Diary and it exposes modern dating'

It is a truth universally acknowledged that in order for a romcom to be great, it has to be relatable - oftentimes painfully so - and in my opinion, no one does relatable quite like Bridget Jones.

The movie heroine has finally set down her story after four films, released over two decades. In honour of the final instalment, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, I revisited the movie that started it all. I was surprised to find that - even in 2025 - Ms Jones (Renee Zellweger) captures the struggles of the modern woman.

This isn't just because of her massive pants, which I think we can all agree were never that big, instead it is her tragic relationship with Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) that holds a mirror to the modern dating landscape.

For those who don't religiously revisit the romantic comedy, Bridget Jones's Diary follows the titular character's quest to change her life before the turn of the new year - told you she's relatable.
