I pride myself in being a bit of a bargain hunter, and having an eye for affordable fashion staples that look more high end – purely to save my bank balance.
M&S has impressed me a lot lately with its stunning fashion staples and designer-inspired accessories.
Now on my radar is M&S’ Checked V-Neck Ruffle Midi Waisted Dress, which I think looks like it belongs in a Ganni store.
Ganni designs often boast frill details, exaggerated collars, bold prints, bows, and are uber feminine.
When I was trawling M&S and stumbled across the Checked V-Neck Ruffle Midi Waisted Dress, I had to look twice as it boasts the same characteristics as some Ganni creations I have seen.
In my humble opinion, I think this high street creation is a hybrid between Ganni’s Checkered Cotton V-Neck Mini Dress, which is on sale for £122.50 down from £245, and the all-black V-neck midi design now £120.
The Ganni Checkered Cotton V-Neck Mini Dress features a similar checked print in black and grey tones, a V-neckline with ruffle collar and black piping on the hem line. It also features the same long puff sleeves. The main difference is the print, the shorter length, and the cross tie detailing across the bust.
The M&S version also boasts an uncanny resemblance to Ganni’s all-black V-neck midi design because of the neckline, ruffle collar, midi length, cinched waist and relaxed fit. Combine both designs together and you have the M&S Checked V-Neck Ruffle Midi Waisted Dress.
The Checked V-Neck Ruffle Midi Waisted Dress has been crafted from a modal and polyester fabric blend, which lends itself to being lightweight and achieving a relaxed and floaty silhouette.
It boasts a V-neckline with a large ruffled collar, with a black bow in the centre, long puff sleeves, an elasticated waist to cinch in your frame and loose A-line midi skirt. Plus, it features a side zip fastening to slip in and out of this one piece effortlessly.
The dress comes in a black and white checked print, which makes it perfect for day or night, all seasons and occasions. It will take you from the office, to after work drinks, a weekend shopping spree followed by brunch, a date night, as well as a wedding.
I would pair this dress with chunky biker boots for daytime wear, which I would swap for a pair of heeled cowboy boots for a slightly more elevated look. Come the spring time you could easily layer it under a barn coat and trainers, or wellington boots, for a bohemian farmcore aesthetic, or sandals in the summer – just ruche those sleeves up.
I would even style the M&S dress with a pair of chunky platform heels, most likely a velvet texture, a giant velvet bow in my hair, to go to a formal occasion like a wedding or Christening.
This versatile dress is easy to wear, is super affordable at £45, especially when compared to Ganni’s steep prices.
M&S’ dress is available in petite, regular and tall sizes, which range from 6 to 24, but stock is selling out fast.
Shoppers are obsessed with this dress, especially as they claim it is crease-free.
