Giant slayer David took down Goliath with a single shot becoming a biblical figure of legend and a fixture in our everyday language.
Now his story is to be retold in a new series coming to Amazon’s Prime Video.
Filmmakers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn are behind the televisual epic, which began production last summer in Greece.
Erwin told the Catholic News Agency: “House of David, for me, began when I was 16 years old and I went to Israel with my dad.
“He bought me my first camera with money he did not have and it was probably the greatest gift I’ve ever received.”
While visiting the tomb of David, Erwin said he thought: “What kind of life do you have to live that your words echo through the centuries?”
“Ever since then I’ve wanted to tell the story,” he added.
House of David chronicles the ascent of the biblical figure David, who eventually became the renowned king of Israel.
As the mighty king Saul falls victim to his own pride, a new successor starts to emerge.
At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenage shepherd boy as the new king.
When Saul begins to lose his grip on power in his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny.
He must navigate love and loss, take on Goliath and deal with violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace.
And as one leader falls, another rises.
Michael Iskander stars as David, a shepherd boy who eventually becomes king.
This is a breakthrough role for the Egyptian-born actor who grew up in the US.
He was picked after a four-month international search for the right actor to play the role.

The Israeli actor, 47, starred in the 2022 film The Swimmers and played Chik in the 2024 adventure movie Arthur The King.
Bodybuilder and actor Martyn Ford takes on the epic role of giant Goliath, a Philistine warrior.
Birmingham-born Ford was originally a cricketer before turning to bodybuilding and acting.
He has appeared in the films Boyka: Undisputed, Redcon-1, Viking Destiny, Final Score, The Marine 6: Close Quarters and The Machine.
And on television, he has had roles in The Nevers, Benidorm and The Sandman.
