Health department to take over Jersey ambulance service

Jersey's ambulance service is set to become the responsibility of the health department.

The Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel heard evidence during its quarterly hearing earlier from the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs, Deputy Mary Le Hegarat.

She said the ambulance service was expected to move within the remit of the Minister for Health and Social Services by July.

At present the ambulance service falls under the home affairs department, alongside the police and fire services.

Le Hagart added: "Police, fire and ambulance all work very closely together and that relationship will remain but the actual oversight and where they sit, clearly, is better under health."
