First Dates' Fred Sirieix takes aim at Love Island stars in brutal statement

TV star Fred Sirieix, the charismatic host of First Dates, has taken a dig at Love Island contestants, asserting that those on his show are not in it for fame or fortune.

The 53 year old maître d', who first won over audiences with his charm and wit when he made his TV debut on First Dates in 2013, isn't shy about sharing his views on reality dating shows.

In a recent interview, he contrasted his programme – which follows singles on blind dates in a specially designed restaurant – with ITV's Love Island, where singles live together in a luxury villa and must form romantic connections to avoid being booted off the island. According to Fred, who recently got married in Jamaica to longterm girlfriend Fruitcake, the goal of First Dates participants is genuine romance, not the need to couple up for a prize.

He shared his thoughts with The Sun, stating: "I'm not here to diss Love Island or anything like that, but people don't come on First Dates because they want to make money or be famous, they come to find love, and that is pure; you don't have to 'couple up' to win the prize."

He went on to emphasise that there's no prize, no money, and no glory on his show, other than finding love. He added: "They have five minutes on television and can hopefully come back home with a person that they want to be." He's the cupid behind countless love stories, but his own romantic tale is usually shrouded in mystery. He's never publicly disclosed his wife's name, affectionately referring to her as Fruitcake instead.

Fred and his fashion-savvy partner, 50, tied the knot at the breathtaking Pattoo Castle on the island, surrounded by their nearest and dearest just last month.

The newlyweds have since shared a series of snaps from their special day and the beginning of their honeymoon on Instagram. Fruitcake uploaded a collection of heartwarming photos featuring Fred planting a kiss on his bride against a stunning sunset backdrop.

She looked absolutely radiant in a strapless white lace gown, complete with a plunging corsetted bodice and sheer veil.

Additional photos captured the joyous couple celebrating their new status as husband and wife, cheering as they made their way down the aisle post-vow exchange. Fred looked dapper in a white suit jacket paired with black trousers and a matching bow tie, jubilantly raising his hand in the air as guests showered them with confetti.

Fruitcake couldn't contain her excitement, captioning the photos: "What a day it was! 18.2. 25 was unforgettable. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos from our wedding!"
