Mansfield Town have announced their scheduled FA Cup third round tie at home against Wigan Athletic on Saturday has been postponed.
The all-League One third round game has fallen victim to freezing conditions around the country this week. Mansfield confirmed on their X page that the game will not go ahead following a pitch inspection on Friday morning
“Following a pitch inspection at One Call Stadium this morning, Mansfield Town’s Emirates FA Cup third round tie at home to Wigan – scheduled for tomorrow - has been postponed due to a frozen pitch and will now take place on Tuesday, January 14 (7.45pm kick-off),” Mansfield wrote on X.
Wigan also shared a statement to supporters explaining that all tickets issued will remain valid for the newly-arranged Tuesday evening fixture.
The 2013 FA Cup winners wrote on their club website: “A pitch inspection took place at the One Call Stadium at 9am this morning (Friday, January 10), with the pitch deemed unplayable by officials and with freezing temperatures set to continue overnight and into Saturday the decision was made to postpone the game until Tuesday evening.”
The FA Cup third round fixtures began on Thursday night with Everton beating Peterborough United, Fulham knocking out Championship Watford and Cardiff City winning away at Sheffield United to book their spots in the fourth round.
Cup action on Friday night sees Wycombe Wanderers host Portsmouth and Aston Villa welcome West Ham in one of just two all-Premier League ties.
Liverpool kick-off Saturday’s action involving top-flight clubs, facing Accrington Stanley at home at midday. Chelsea then host Morecambe before the Class of 92-backed Salford City travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City.
National League Tamworth will attempt to stage the biggest cup upset in years against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, before Arsenal and Manchester United face off in the tie of the round later in the day.
