FA Cup hero and ex-Norwich star dies aged 26 as GoFundMe set up

Devonte Aransibia has died aged 26 after starred in an FA Cup giant-killing run.

Aransibia kicked off his career with Norwich City, shining in their youth ranks before parting ways with the club in 2018.

He had a brief stint at Billericay Town and then took some time away from football. The talented midfielder made a comeback, playing for Chelmsford and Welling United, before his skills caught the eye at Tonbridge Angels.

His impressive performances there led to a switch to Maidstone United.

Aransibia became a key figure in Maidstone's unforgettable cup journey last season, netting a goal in their initial victory over Chesham. The non-league heroes went on to stun Championship team Ipswich, who were on their ascent to the Premier League.

However, midway through the season, Aransibia left Maidstone, turned out for Braintree, and then rejoined Tonbridge. This season saw him start with Chesham, making a couple of appearances, reports the Mirror.

In the wake of this heartbreaking news, Aransibia's family has launched a GoFundMe page in his memory.

A heartfelt statement reads: "It is with heavy hearts that we come together to honour the life of Dev, a loving partner, devoted father, cherished son, and dear friend to so many. Dev was the embodiment of kindness and compassion, always ready with a warm smile.

"His infectious laughter and generous spirit brightened every room he entered, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Beyond his loving nature, Dev was a talented footballer whose passion and drive propelled him to great success on the pitch."

Tonbridge's manager, Jay Saunders, expressed his heartbreak: "It's devastating news. Devonte was just a good person and a very good footballer. He was a quiet lad but a real nice kid. I'm just gutted for his family and everyone involved. I'm truly gutted.

"You spend quite a lot of time with these lads and get to know them personally and it's devastating news when you hear something like that. He always looked so happy. When he was scoring goals, the smile on his face, I can picture it."
